Owatonna brings back Jay Sullivan, Nolan Malo, Andrew Jackson, Alex Raichle, and Kubista from last year’s rotation and with Sullivan and Kubista returning expectations are big.
“I played basketball most Saturdays,” Kubista said about how he prepared for the season.
“I did workouts and my goals for the season are to compete in the big 9 and be one of the top three teams in the conference.”
The Huskies have a chance to get in that top three behind the league’s recent best Rochester JM and Austin but will have to win games against other contenders like Red Wing, Northfield, Mankato East, and Faribault.
“We have a lot of guards who can score in a variety of ways and get other guys open more,” Dalton said. “We have mostly guard so our ability to full court pressure and get a lot of fast break opportunities will help us win.”
Kubista had a fantastic spring and summer playing with Wear Out the Net ranking with some of the best 16u players in the state which is why he earned all state honors.
“WOTN is a very fun time and the coaches are great,” Dalton said. “It helps my game because we work on a lot of fundamentals at practice so that helped improve my dribbling and my passing.
“It also helps to hear a different opinion on different ways to score or different moves to use in a game and stuff like that.”
Kubista is hearing from a couple schools already and he’s also a strong spring sport athlete.
“St. John’s has sent me a couple of letters and a couple of others like Winona State and Carleton have sent one. I have also got a couple of division three letters for track.”
