“This year is a really important year to me,” Dickson said. “I say that not only because I have an expectation of winning a state title, but also because I believe I have a big opportunity to put my name on the map.
“While I strive for greatness on the court, I have really been putting in the time of preparing myself for the upcoming standardized tests (ACT/SAT). I have really high hopes and expectations for both me and my team to perform well this year, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes.
“Defend, rebound, make plays off the ball and even be more of a threat with ball in terms of scoring.”
Dickson had an all state 16U level year with Minnesota Select which has helped him boost his confidence to another level.
“AAU gave me the opportunity to showcase and expand my game beyond the certain role I have in high school,” CJ said.
“Leadership and being able to direct traffic for my teammates helped me become a better player, but also having the freedom and ball put in my hands I was able to show my tenacious side of me on offense and especially defense.
“Playing in front of many college coaches prepared me to understand the idea of consistency, because every game there’s someone watching and I know I would need to perform.”
Dickson scored six a game for the Islanders last year but this is a new season.
“What’s different about our team is that we all bring something different to the table, and if we have every single style/ability of player put into the game it’ll be hard for upcoming opponents to matchup with us,” CJ explained.
“Not many teams have that, and if they do, not many can use all of that talent to create an unbeatable team. We have that kind of team, and it can be hard to stop us.”
The 6-foot-4 wing is on the map of several schools that offer scholarships to local talent.
“Furman, North Dakota State, Winona State, Sioux Falls, Northern State, Carleton, University of Mary, and Northland are showing interest,” said Dickson.
