“This offseason I started it off playing with the Minnesota Comets and I really enjoyed my time with them,” Burt said. “I met a lot of great new guys and I think we had a really successful AAU season.
“From there, I’ve been working hard on getting into the gym whenever I can. Whether that’s before school or after, my main goal has been to get as many quality shots up as I can before the season starts.”
Hedstrom is playing for his fourth coach at Tonka and so far the new staff has people excited.
“My new coach Ryan Freeberg has truly helped improve my shooting, by simply giving me the opportunities to get in the gym and shoot with him whenever I can,” Burt said.
“With my new role as a senior leader and scorer, I need to be able to shoot the ball well day in and day out.”
Tonka will be picked last in the Lake Conference which will be motivation for them from day one.
“As for as our goals for this year, I hope to be very competitive in the Lake Conference, and make a run for the section championship, because from there anything can happen,” Hedstrom said.
“I think my teammates and I have high expectations for ourselves, and we are excited by the prospect of being able to prove other people wrong.”
The Skippers had high expectations a year ago but unfortunately we not able to turn their talent into enough victories. Hedstrom understands this and wants to be a part of change.
“I think our biggest thing that we need is leadership,” Burt said. “We have had the talent at Tonka these past few years but have lacked in solid leadership and have fallen short in the playoffs.
“This leadership can come from the coach, obviously, but I think it’s most important coming from us players. So if Matt Haas, Zeke Carver-Bagley, and myself can all buy into to that, I think we have a great shot at being successful.”
Hedstrom is looking at four schools for his college future which could be baseball and/or basketball.
“The four schools on my list are St. Thomas, St. Olaf, St. John’s, and Carleton. All four of these are for both basketball and baseball.”
