Continue Reading“You can’t teach 6-foot-11”, is a saying that almost every college basketball coach in the country speaks of. Standing at nearly 7-feet, Nate Springs of Myers Park High School in Charlotte fits this bill to a T. Springs has seen his recruitment take off after a strong summer and the fact that he is blessed with height that can be taught. He has a 7-foot-5 reach to go along with the fact he is one of the tallest players in the PrepHoopsNC scouting area.
Springs has the ability to knock down shots from the perimeter, has a soft touch around the basket and can control games with his length that allow him to disrupt passing lanes and alter shots. He helped lead Myers Park High School to a 15-12 overall record and a 7-5 record in the tough Southwestern 4-A conference. The 2018 recruit has this to say about the upcoming season, “My goals for this season are to stay aggressive, and to not think so much and just play the game.”
His recruitment is still in the evaluation process but Springs said, “I’ve heard from and seen coaches from Clemson, Tennessee, Princeton, College of Charleston, ECU, Boston University, UNCC, Georgia Southern, UNCG, William and Mary, Wofford, and UNC-Asheville. He has no offers at this point.
One of the biggest match=ups this season for the Mustangs this season will be their game with Independence High School. ” The game I’m most looking forward to is playing Independence in my matchup with Justyn Hamilton,” Hamilton is a 6-foot-10 Temple University commit who is ranked by PrepHoopsNC as the 6th best prospect in the 2018 class. With a good showing in this match-up against a player who has already committed to a Division One school will only help with Springs’ recruitment.
The future is bright for Springs and we will continue to track his progress over the next two season. The old adage “You can’t teach 6-foot-11”, will definitely be the case for this recruit.
