After getting the signed LOI from Wossman point guard C.J. Jones last week, the highly rated big man from the crosstown rival Carroll Bulldogs, Larry Owens, also signed with the Demons.
Here at PrepHoops Louisiana, we rank Owens as the eighth-best senior in Louisiana, fourth amongst bigs, but Owens is highly rated everywhere you go: ESPN rated him as the sixth-best 2017 prospect in the state, giving him three stars.
I got to see Owens several times over the course of last season and he was outright dominant: the only thing I saw slow him down was foul trouble. He’s particularly good in the middle of Carroll’s trademark 2-3 zone. As a tease to future content, I’ll be sure to see him more this season and put out a updated scouting report on him.
Owens was a 1 st-team all-state selection by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association last year after leading the Bulldogs to the quarterfinals. Losing to a select school at that stage (St. Louis Catholic) makes the Bulldogs seem to be a great candidate to make the Top 28 this year, but that’s something I discussed in a previous post.
