It’s not difficult to see that ’19 Mekhi Long is beginning to scratch the surface of his full potential. The energetic 6-foot-6 wing is getting stronger and more consistent converting in traffic as he continues to grow into his body. With an offer from Hampton already under his belt, Long is a strong candidate to break out this year. Expect an uptick in his recruitment soon.
Hard to argue that ’18 Lelan Eackles is a high level athlete. At 6-foot-5, the long-limbed wing has the potential to defend multiple positions at the next level. Eackles impressed with his ability to consistently hit mid-range jump shots as well.
’19 Jahmir Young is expected to help relieve pressure in the back court this year, and he showed that he is ready to step up and contribute. An explosive, crafty lead guard with good vision and passing skills, Young demonstrated adeptness at getting into the paint where he consistently created for himself or finished in traffic.
Additional Notes
Chris Greene shot the ball exceptionally well from the perimeter. After practice, Greene was seen getting up even more shots as he works to become a consistent threat from downtown. You have to applaud the work ethic and leadership intangibles possessed by the Wheeling Jesuit Commit.
Raidell de Pree recently arrived this summer from the Netherlands, and the available senior is already making his impact felt. At around 6-foot-5, de Pree is a strong wing who can stretch the floor with accuracy and consistency.
’18 D’Angelo Tull is a great presence to have in any locker room or huddle. The hard-working, vocal floor general is regarded as a leader and he does not shy from his role. Expect Tull to be a reliable go-to-guy at the PG spot this year.
It’s been fun to see just how much better ’19 Chris Weaver has gotten since last year. The sturdy 6-foot-5 forward has noticeably tightened up his frame and become more confident and explosive
Introducing ’18 Aapeli Syrjamaki. A 7-footer from Finland, Syrjamaki has hit a serious growth spurt over the last twelve months, and has shown positive signs as he continues to grow into his body. The athleticism and work ethic are certainly there, and he should continue to get better as he gains experience.
