At your school what is your favorite part or parts about game days in terms of the routine leading up to the game?
“At my school, my favorite part about gameday and our routines is the atmosphere in the locker room when we are getting ready. When we are listening to music and everybody is just in the zone.”
What makes your crowd unique? What is a memorable thing they’ve done that you will always remember?
“Our crowd is very supportive. One thing I will always remember about our crowd is our “shoot for a cure” night. We had a very large crowd and one of my teammates’ mom talked about what it takes to go through cancer and I think everybody in that gym just came together and it was just an experience I will never forget.”
Who is the toughest player you can recall playing against in Minnesota basketball and why?
“The toughest player I can recall playing against would probably be Nick Dufualt. When he got going there was no stopping him and he would be hitting shots that you would never think are going in.”
Who is your biggest rival and what about them makes the rivalry both heated and memorable?
“It is very tough to pick one rival for our school. We do not really have a rival, there have just been a couple teams in our section that we have some good games with including Mankato East, Waseca, Mankato West, and Hutch. We also have games that go back and forth with the Sioux Falls Washington and Sioux Falls Lincoln and they would be a little closer to being a rival also.”
Who is your favorite basketball player in the world and why?
“My favorite basketball player in the world is Damian Lillard. I love him because he went to a mid-major division 1 college and he really shows us that labels do not mean everything. He did not go to a big time school like most people think you need to if you are going to make it. Too many people get caught up in the hype when you really just need one opportunity and a strong work ethic and you can do anything you put your mind to.”
What brand of gear or type of gear are you partial too?
“I typically wear Nike or Jordan. I also wear McDavid knee and thigh pads. I am a huge fan of the Kobe shoes and I have the Kobe 8’s, 9’s, 10’s, and 11’s. I also love the KD shoes and those are what I will be wearing this year.”
What is your favorite venue to play basketball in that you’ve played in?
“My favorite venue that I have played in would be the Taylor Center at Minnesota State University. I have never gotten the chance to play in Williams Arena or the Target Center and hopefully can change that this coming year.”
If your team could play anybody in the state that’s not on the schedule who would it be?
“One team that is not on our schedule that I would like to play is DeLaSalle. I hope we get the chance to play them this year. “
Explain the relationship varsity players have at your school with youth players?
“The relationship with varsity players and younger players at our school is very close. We are all friends and it’s pretty much like one big family.”
Best coaching advice you’ve received is what and who is it from?
“The best coaching advice that has stuck with me to this point was when Coach Critchley told me, “Weston, just keep working hard.” He told me this right before he moved when I was in 8th grade and I think it just sticks with me because I truly believe that working hard can get you really far in life and I think about it all the time when I’m playing basketball or working out and trying to get better.”
Who is your basketball influence?
“My basketball influence- I have to say that I have a couple of basketball influences. I play for Carter and Leann. Both were people I lost to cancer after my sophomore year, one of which was my best friend’s mom. I think about them all the time during basketball season, especially on game days, and I just play my hardest and enjoy every moment of it because some people are not lucky enough to be there today.”
