Lance had an excellent 16U year with the Southwest Minnesota Stars as they won many more games than expected.
Now Trey is leading a Marshall Tiger football program that is currently undefeated and plays Hutchinson for the Section 2 championship Friday night at Southwest Minnesota State.
Football is the focus of the 6-foot-3, 185 pound quarterback and safety at the moment. But it won’t be long before Trey is also leading one of the best Class AAA teams in basketball.
“Right now I’m mostly focused on football, but getting to the state tournament and playing as a team is the biggest goal for the basketball year,” Lance said.
“Individually, I want to be a better leader, and focus more on the defensive side of the floor this season.”
The Tigers lost very little talent to graduation and bring back players like Nebraska-Kerney bound Weston Baker Magrath and SD School of Mines commit Mitchell Sueker.
“We have a lot of experience this year especially with our strong senior class, and we should be able to dominate teams defensively with our size,” Lance said.
Most of the recruitment coming to Trey right now is football because he is such a good quarterback. Trey has also heard from a few basketball schools too.
“For football I’m hearing from North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Northern Iowa, and I get mail from Minnesota and Purdue, for basketball I’ve only gotten mail from Winona State and University of Sioux Falls.”
So far Lance has taken a single visit but he’s expected to make a couple other games for visits soon.
“I’ve been to South Dakota State for a visit, and I think I’m going to North Dakota State and Northern Iowa for games,” said Lance.
