Head Coach: Joel Battle
Conference: Piedmont Triad 4-A conference
Last Season: 10-15 overall (2-8 in conference)
Last year High Point Central High School finished 10-15 overall and 2-8 in conference play with a very inexperienced group. Last year’s team beat a very tough Northern Durham High School team in a MLK Day game and won the Sheetz Holiday Classic Silver Bracket Championship over the Christmas Holiday.
High Point Central High School returns 4 starters from last year’s team and will have a talented young group to add to the core. This season they will look to make a run at a conference title in the always tough Piedmont Triad 4-A conference which includes Southwest and Northwest Guilford. This year’s team will bring athleticism, speed, and depth to the court in hopes of climbing up the conference standings.
The team will participate again in the Sheetz Holiday Tournament in High Point, NC during Christmas break. We will also be playing in the Greater NC Pro AM MLK Holiday Showcase at Southern Durham High School.
Top players to keep an eye on:
- Jo’el Jenkins top returning scorer 6’4” a junior wing who’s long and athletic. He plays multiple positions, attacks the rim and boards, and is a streaky shooter. Averaged nearly a double double as a sophomore. Should receive some interest from colleges this season as he continues to grow and mature.
- Zab McPhail 6’3” senior wing. Smooth scorer and shooter that can play multiple positions as well and brings a scorers mentality every night.
- Daylon McBryde 6’0” senior guard. Aggressive defender and scorer that can produce big in games. Had a few big time games last season while battling knee injuries. Should be even better with a healthy year.
- Willie Davis 5’10” senior point guard. Quick as lightning up and down the court and plays very aggressive defense on opposing team’s point guards. Has a knack for getting his hands on the ball and is also a very good passer and rebounder from the point guard position.
