And although he did spend his summer playing up with the 17U Tri-State Steam squad, Duax — still just a junior — says his recruitment has been slow-going thus far.
“Honestly not really much, a couple colleges have shown interest, but nothing much really,” said Duax, who mentioned UW-Platteville, Central, and Dubuque have all reached out.
“I just hope I can work as hard as I can and hopefully have a big junior season and see my recruitment spike up a little. I do have a dream of playing college basketball at the highest level possible. And I’m going to do whatever I can right now to help attain that goal.”
Duax has grown more than four inches over the past year, and with the added length has come some perks on the floor. He defined his playing style in detail to PHIA.
“I feel like I can impact a game by taking care of the ball. I’m pretty good with pressure, so any team that presses I can usually bring it up the floor pretty well. And then I can space the floor as a shooter, which can open up driving lanes for my teammates. I’m very active on the defensive end, with my long arms, I can get steals and deflections and start fast breaks from the defensive end.”
With the season starting in just a few weeks, Duax and the rest of the Mustangs are very confident in their team and its ability to make some serious noise at the 4A level.
“I’ll need to step-up and be a team leader this season as a junior. Last season we had a really good team leader, but he graduated. So me and my brother Connor will take on that role this season. We have a lot of experience back, and players that got a lot of time last year,” said Duax.
“We know we have a lot of good guys with experience. And we’ve been playing together since middle school, so we have good team chemistry. We know what we can achieve, and we’re just hoping to get out there and do it.”
