He went from being mostly unknown to picking up three NAIA offers after showcasing himself on the 17U circuit with SW Iowa Select. And he even has some Division II schools that have been showing some interest.
Briar Cliff, Doane and Bellevue are the 6-foot-5 wing’s offers, and more could be coming in very soon.
“There’s two that are kind of in the mix and they said they will offer before my senior season starts, and that’s Bellevue and Morningside,” said Torneton, who was offered by Bellevue yesterday just days after we spoke to him.
“I’ve been talking to Wayne State, Nebraska-Kearney, Missouri Western State, Minot State, Maryville University in St. Louis. I’ve been talking to those schools on the phone and getting letters but no offers from the D2 level.
There was one D2 that was pursuing him more than the others, but its coach left, and now a JuCo in Wyoming is interested.
“I’d say maybe Minot State was after me the most, one of their coaches that was really recruiting me heavy ended up going to a JuCo. So actually I’ve still been talking to him and that’s a JuCo in Casper, Wyoming called Casper College.”
Good news though for the two schools that have offers (Doane and Briar Cliff), Torneton says he’d like to make his college decision soon, and he really likes one of them.
“I’d like to make a decision before the season. There is one school that really stands out to me and I kind of want to go somewhere where I’m wanted, and that offers what I want academically,” sad Torneton. “So one of the schools that’s offered me really stands out, and I’m hoping to make a decision before the season.”
