The 5-foot-8 scoring guard led his team in scoring as a freshman, netting 15 points per game. Last season as a sophomore he again led the Bulldogs with 20.1 points per game.
All that scoring has helped Weber generate some early recruitment from area Division III and NAIA programs. Some Division II mail is starting to trickle in too.
“Briar Cliff continues to talk to me quite a bit and then Central has started to pick it up a little more. And then lately I’ve gotten some stuff from Winona State out of Minnesota, University of Sioux Falls, and then William Penn has sent me some stuff lately,” said Weber.
“Most of it has been letters. Briar Cliff and Central have contacted me a little bit through texting, but the rest of it is just mail.”
Though he still has two full high school seasons left to showcase himself, and one grassroots season, Weber says his recruitment is something that is a high priority for him right now.
“My recruitment is very important to me, that’s always been a dream of mine to play college basketball,” said Weber. “And I’d love to play at as high of level as I can, but really the main goal is to play somewhere. I just love the game so much, and I don’t want to stop playing after high school.”
Already an elite scoring threat at the 1A level, Weber mentioned some things he’ll be looking to improve this season.
“I’ve always had a pretty strong left hand, and really I’ve been trying to get stronger with my right hand, and I think that’s gotten a lot better,” he said. “And then I’m really trying to work on my mid-range game, there’s a lot of openings there in high school basketball, and I want to take advantage of that.”
Right now Weber is playing football and cross country at Boyer Valley, and immediately after he’ll shift his focus to his junior season of hoops.
“Last year I had to be a leader because I was the most experienced guy on the team even though I was just a sophomore. And I think I’m just going to have to step that up even more this year, and be more vocal with the team,” said Weber.
“And then I’m obviously going to have to be our primary scorer, and I’ll have to distribute the ball well and probably even do a little bit of rebounding.”
He added: “I feel like we have a chance to go pretty far as a team. And I’d really like to focus on that because I think this could be special year with everyone coming back if we just all buy in and work hard.”
