Dominic Laravie. I wish that was all I could say about this kid. I had a chance to see him play his last two seasons and have not been disappointed yet. He gets after it on offense and defense. He is a walking stat stuffer as he gets rebounds, steals, and most of all, points. He has no problem scoring and is usually a problem to whoever is defending him. Last season he averaged 15.0 points per game for Archbishop Alter. His highest game, he had 26 points in a win in overtime against Division I Centerville High School. Laravie dominated the game with cousin Joey Laravie who graduated last school year. Dominic Laravie will be taking on his senior year without his cousin but that should be no issue. He can for certainly hold his own.
Photo taken by Marc PendletonDominic has been receiving offers from Christian Brothers University and interest from Wheeling Jesuit University and the University of Chicago. He has not made any commitments yet or gave any ideas on where he is going because he wants to keep his options open and just enjoy playing his last season of high school basketball. Hopefully his list of interest and offers expands during the season.
I asked Laravie what he would like to work on to expand his game. He said “I would like to work on ball handling and I am working on having a quicker shooting release”. Laravie is 6’5. A 6’5 wing player with strong ball handling ability and a quick release on his jump shot will make him very effective on the floor. He shot 41% from the three last season. With taller guys guarding him, he really may need to get that shot release quicker to avoid getting his shot blocked.
Dominic also dominates in the classroom as well as he does on the floor. The student-athlete has a 3.7 grade point average. Prime example of what it means to be a student athlete. Hopefully his abilities to excel in the classroom and on the basketball court lead him to a scholarship to play basketball somewhere.
