Continue ReadingAlways improving 6’6” forward, Adam Porter (2017), has plenty of Division III options going into his senior season at The Wellington School.
At the moment, Porter has confirmed with eight colleges that he can play for their programs. Those schools are Ohio Northern, Otterbein, Wittenberg, Heidelberg, Dominican (IL), Blackburn (IL), and Goucher (MD).
“Also, I’m getting interest from Case Western, Oberlin, Wheeling Jesuit, Ashland,” Porter said.
How to Choose?
While the Division III interest is through the roof and Porter wants to make the decision “as early as possible,” there’s still a few developments yet to play out.
“If I had to pick a school right now, I’d pick Ashland. It was really cool when I went up there. I really like the school and all that.”
“As far as states, I have it pinned between Ohio and the surrounding states. Or Florida and North Carolina, because I have family down there too and it’s warm weather,” Porter said.
The senior has already taken visits to the eight programs who have extended their welcome. Furthermore, Porter is planning on taking another visit to Goucher, along with Muskingum and Bluffton.
“I’m trying to get more Division II and NAIA schools to contact me so I can play for a scholarship, because I got a large list of D-IIIs right now.”
“Currently I’m looking at things involving the school. If an NAIA school were to offer me, they would still have to have good academics,” Porter said, who carries a 2.42 GPA.
“If a Division II school would offer me, I’d most likely go there. I’ve been talking with the coaches from Ashland, and he kind of wants me to walk-on but he hasn’t offered me yet,” Porter said.
Continuous Development
Porter takes pride in how much he worked this summer, going to the gym from 8am-4pm every day and playing with All Ohio White. He’s also staying around the All Ohio program currently, by competing in their Fall League.
His inside-outside attack is being facilitated by adding two more inches since last winter.
“I play the 3 and the 4. So I start inside and I’m like a post player, driving mainly. But I also shoot threes and do a lot of stop-and-pops and break people down off the dribble,” Porter said.
“The highlight reel I had was from last year. I’ve grown two inches every year. So, I was 6’4” then. I’ve been playing a lot, so what I added mostly this year is being able to bring the ball up the court and dunking in traffic,” Porter said.
The senior prospect is being recruited as a power forward by everyone besides Division II programs, who would like to use him as a pure wing.
However, if his doctors are correct, another growth spurt could push his recruitment to new heights.
“I’m supposed to stop between now and 6’9” … Lot of my cousins are 6’7”, and far out cousins are 7-foot,” Porter said.
Keep an eye on Porter and his high school season. The Jaguars have State Championship expectations, and you cannot blame them, as the Division IV powerhouse fell a mere six points short in the semi-finals last year to Cornerstone Christian.
