Last season King was playing with the freshman team, and has worked hard to develop his skill-set since. This season the sophomore is hopeful for a spot with the varsity.
“Last year I actually played freshman ball, our school is the biggest school in Ohio, so there’s a lot of competition. But this year I think I’m going to play varsity,” said King.
“I played in the Cedarville Summer League a little bit with the varsity, and it was a big step forward for me playing up with them, and I though I fit in well.”
A versatile guard/wing hybrid, King laid out for PHOH what his playing style is.
“My strengths are shooting and then taking the ball to the basket and scoring, those are the main three. I’ve really improved on my defense, and I think I’ve improved my rebounding too,” said King, who spent his 15U season playing with the Cincinnati Eagles
“I think I played pretty well with them. I think I improved a lot on defense and just the fundamentals.”
With plenty of time to earn his stripes with the Comets, King knows it’s a process to get to where he wants to be. And ultimately, he’s just eager to help the varsity get to a state tournament.
“I want to make varsity and I might play JV, I don’t know yet,” he said. “But I really want to go far in the tournament, and help the varsity do that.”
