6-foot-3 D’Angelo Elliott is one of his players and he has let John make him into the best player that he can be. The rising sophomore is in his first season at Carolina Day School after spending last season at Asheville High School. Justin Byerly of PrepHoopsNC caught up with D’Angelo this week to discuss everything basketball.
PrepHoopsNC: How is the fall workouts going so far for you?
D’Angelo Elliott: Fall workouts have been great for me. My coach’s are really pushing me in the weight room and on the court so that I can be ready for when the season comes.
PrepHoopsNC: How was your freshman season at Asheville?
D’Angelo Elliott: I had an okay freshman season. I played jv and averaged about 11pts a game.
PrepHoopsNC: What are the differences in Asheville High and Carolina day?
D’Angelo Elliott: I’ve noticed some huge differences when I switched to CDS. The class sizes are smaller and the environment is a lot better than what I’m use to.
PrepHoopsNC: Who are some of the players you look up to from around the area who have made an impact on you?
D’Angelo Elliott: There’s not really any players I look up to from the area. But coaches and trainers such as John Williams and Coach Tripp and my community in general has made a huge impact on me. Everyone sees that I have the potential to make it to the next level so they’re constantly pushing me to stay in the gym and keep working on my game.
PrepHoopsNC: What are your goals for this season
D’Angelo Elliott: My goals for this season is to average at least 20pts, 10rebounds and 5steals. But most importantly make it to state and get that ring.
PrepHoopsNC: How is your recruiting going? What schools have reached out?
D’Angelo Elliott: Recruiting is going pretty well. Lee University and Virginia Military Institute have both reached out to me and they’re looking forward to seeing me play this.
