This year Washington Wizard point guard and Raleigh native John Wall has come on board and it is now renamed The John Wall Holiday Invitational. The tournament is held in Raleigh at Broughton High Schoolover the Christmas holiday and like every year before it showcases some of the best basketball players in the country. Here are the teams participating this year.
Jordan WhitfieldMillbrook High School (Raleigh)– Jordan Whitfield, a 2017 guard who has committed to Campbell University is catching the same attention that his older brother (Shane Whitfield) did almost three years ago. A true point guard, the 6-foot Whitfield has a high basketball IQ and has a great sense for finding the open man. He can score at will and has high-level ball-handling skills. 22017 Patrick Dorsey is a knock-down shooter from three-point line in and has a great motor. At this point he is a Division Two prospect with a high basketball IQ.
Leesville Road High School (Raleigh)– Returning for Leesville Road is co-CAP-8 Player of the Year Alex Hunter, the 5-foot-11 point guard averaged 16 points per game this past season. He chose Furman University over the summer from other offers including Manhattan, UNC-Asheville and High Point. Also returning is all-conference forward Jonathan Mebane and 2019 SG Jalen Benjamin and 6-foot-5 2019 F Roger Wilson.
Garner High School is returning two starters and three other players from last year’s Eastern Regional Runner-Up team and will look to the to continue the Trojan tradition here at Garner. Alex Reed (Sr.) and Kenyon Burt (Jr.) are the key returners who will be looked at to provide leadership and guidance to a team with only a few seniors. Alex Reed 6′ 5″ Sr: A very versatile,
Alex Reedphysical and tough player that can play inside and out. He is one of only a few players in school history to start all 4 years. In 2015 he was the Regional Championship Player of the Game and a member of the State Championship team. He has received an offer from Western Carolina and has received interest from NC Central, Coastal Carolina and Catawba. Kenyon Burt 6′ 5″ Jr: Kenyon enters his 3rd year on the varsity and brings a lot of experience to the table along with a state championship in 2015. A tireless worker and rebounder on the floor, he has a knack for the ball and will be looked at to provide more scoring this year. Kenyon has received attention from Virginia, Radford, NC Central, College of Charleston, Longwood, Campbell, Lenior Rhyne and Newberry.
Southern Durham High School (Durham)-Returning players include 2017 J’Tori Christmas, who averaged nearly 15 points per game this past season, 2018 SG Antonio Daye
Antonio Daye(offers from Temple and Abilene Christian) who averaged 14.8 points, 3 steals and 3 rebounds per game and 6-foot-2 shooting guard Jomaru Brown who averaged 14.2 points and 3 rebounds this past season. Southern Durham finished last season as the Big 8 3-A champions and fell in the fourth round of the NCHSAA 3-A state playoffs. The Spartans lost 86-82 to top-seeded Eastern Alamance High School.
Ravenscroft School (Raleigh)– The loss of Michael Okauru (transfered to Brewster Academy) will hurt but the Ravens will look to 6-foot-4 senior Ian Dubose
Ian Dubose, a very athletic guard who has offers from Yale, Houston Baptist and Dartmouth. Also returning is senior Douglas Elks, a do-it-all wing for the Ravens. Elks also has a offer from Houston Baptist.
