There are a number of directions you could go with this selection, as you could make a solid argument for any of the members of the first team. However, the recent preferred-walk-on Iowa commit has a good chance to lead 3A in scoring after scoring 16 a game last year, and losing a pair of 15-point a game scorers to graduation. The wiry guard can fill it up in a hurry, and is one of the state’s most dangerous perimeter shooters, knocking down 60 of his 141 attempts from the arc last year (42.6%).
First Team
2017 Austin Ash, Mount Vernon (16.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 48.1 FG%, 42.6 3P%, 88.4 FT%)
Ash showed glimpses of his take-over ability in games last year, then really showcased it at team camps over the summer. Look out for a number of 30+ point games from the sharpshooter.
2017 Abraham Kinrade, Maquoketa (14.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.1 blocks. 45.7 FG%, 39.4 3P%, 73.0 FT%)
Like Ash, the Air Force commit will be the primary scorer this year after sharing some of the spotlight last season. A long, athletic wing, Kinrade can impact the game in a number of ways and scores from anywhere on the court.
2018 Jordan Lake, Western Dubuque (14.8 points, 3.5 assists, 1.3 steals, 123 FTM, 86.0 FT%)
Look for Lake’s efficiency numbers to increase substantially from the 39.4% he shot from the floor last year, as the Bobcats return seven of their top eight scorers from last season. A dynamic scoring guard, he lives at the free throw line, much like older brother T.J. did.
2017 John Nagel, West Delaware (14.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 55.6 FG%, 71.7 FT%)
One of two Hawks on the first team, Nagel is an efficient scorer who has the freedom to step away from the paint a bit more with the emergence of Krogmann. That duo will pace what should be one of 3A’s top teams.
2019 Derek Krogmann, West Delaware (11.5 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, 61.4 FG%, 74.1 FT%)
Coming off a sensational freshman season, Krogmann picked up an offer from North Dakota over the summer. A double-double threat every time out, he’s only getting better.
