It was close here between Storbeck and Iowa Falls-Alden’s Jace Ites, but we are giving the edge to the Clear Lake scoring guard. Storbeck is the conference’s leading returning scorer, he netted 19.6 points per game last season. He’s also one of the best free-throw shooters in the North Central, connecting on 84.7 percent of his attempts as a junior. We expect the good-sized guard to be north of 20 points per game this winter.
First Team
2017 Thomas Storbeck, 6’2 SG, Clear Lake (19.6 PPG, 84 FT%, 3.5 RPG)
He’s the conference’s leading returning scorer and could average more than 20 per game this season.
2017 Jace Ites, 6’4 F, Iowa Falls Alden (18.3 PPG, 50 FG%, 6.8 RPG)
The leading returning scorer and rebounder for the Cadets, Ites was a close second in preseason player of the year consideration.
2017 Charlie Doyle, 6’1 G/F, St. Edmonds (12.1 PPG, 40 3FG%, 3.5 APG)
We saw him light it up a couple times playing on the 17U grassroots circuit during the spring, and he’ll get up plenty of shots with the Gaels this winter.
2018 Rhett Darland, 6’2 SG, Clarion-Goldfield (11.5 PPG, 43 3FG%, 3.0 RPG)
He lit it up last season as a sophomore, nailing 43 percent of his outside attempts. He could lead the conference in 3s made this season.
2018 Zach Lester, 6′ PG, Clear Lake (10.1 PPG, 6.0 APG, 2.9 SPG)
The best distributor in the conference, he led the North Central in assists last season, and there’s no reason to think he won’t do it again as a junior.
Second Team
2017 Jackson Helmers, 6’1 G, Algona
2018 Sam Urness, 5’9 PG, Clarion-Goldfield
2018 Logan Gooder, 6’2 F, Hampton-Dumont
2017 Drew Thomas, 6’1 PG, Humboldt
2017 Weston Meyer, 6’5 C, Iowa Falls-Alden
Honorable Mention: Zack Leist (Clarion-Goldfield), Chase Heist (Clarion Goldfield), Devon Clark (Humboldt), Tyjon Rose (Iowa Falls-Alden), Andrew Gibb (St. Edmond), Will Woodruff (St. Edmond), Connor Shannon (Webster City), Nick Stein (Algona)
