What can I do to get better? This is a question that as an evaluator that I love to hear, it truly makes me feel like a youngster is serious about becoming the best they can be. Out of all my years of scouting I don’t think I was asked this question more in one season than I was last season from Forward Ethan Herring. Prior to transferring to Trinity Christian he attended Word of God Christian in Raleigh, during his time there he played more like a stretch forward/wing more than a power forward. However once he got to Trinity it seems as if he put in his mind, that he was going to be more aggressive inside the paint and the results definitely showed.
Why should College coaches should keep a close eye on Ethan?
Although he has made a more concerned effort to play inside the paint, he still has the ability to knock down shots from midrange and deep. He’s the type of player that would do well in pick and roll situation due to the fact that he can pop out and shoot it, dive to the basket, or pull up for the short jumper. He’s also put in the time and is now more comfortable playing with his back to the basket, through the past season he showed some post moves that made him a much more productive player. Another attribute of his game that I believe coaches will like is his ability to rebound the ball offensively and defensively, he battles hard and goes for rebounds with the attitude that every ball belongs to him. The key to Etan’s success will be constantly staying aggressive and never taking any plays or possessions off, coaches at the D2 level should be all over him.
