We were introduced to this young man a few years back by our guys over at The Hoops Column, all it took was watching their video of Elijah for a minute to realize that this was a special young player. Just like many of the other youngsters in the Eastern part of the state he played in an area that not many college coaches or media members tend to visit. So we must tip our hat to The Hoops Column guys for finding this young man without a doubt, at the time he was playing for Rocky Mount Academy a school in the NCISAA 2A division. The first time I got a chance to physically see Elijah play was during the HS season this past year when they came to visit Fayetteville Academy in a conference game. Although he didn’t have his best showing statistically and his team came up short, I left the gym impressed with how he impacted the game without having a big night stats wise.
What makes him special?
The first thing you notice when meeting Elijah is his demeanor, he’s a very laid back young man but is always respectful, even on the court you won’t see a lot of extra jawing and what not. He’s a very unselfish player that makes sure to get the entire team involved and cares more about getting the win more than any personal accomplishment. He has the ability to score from midrange, deep and inside but also is a very gifted passer with solid ball handling skills, so coaches can play him at the PG or SG spot. Now that he’s transferred in to the Greenfield School it will be interesting to see how he plays, no longer will teams be able to double team him or tailor a defense particularly for him as he will be playing alongside Coby White. As of now his recruitment has been decent, but after this season I truly believe that schools will be even more impressed with his game and will give him a call.
