Independence High School senior Justyn Hamilton became the second PrepHoopsNC Top 10 2017 player to commit to Temple University a couple of weeks ago. He joins Greensboro Day wing JP Moorman who also committed to the Owls in September. Hamilton had Division One offers from DePaul, North Florida, East Carolina, Old Dominion, Charlotte, Appalachian State, UCF, James Madison, UNC-Wilmington, Kennesaw State, Ohio, Northwestern State, VCU, High Point, College of Charleston, UNC-Greensboro and ETSU before committing to Fran Dunphy and Temple.
Last season at Independence HS, Hamilton helped the team to a 21-8 record overall and 10-2 mark in the conference. Independence made it to the third round of the NCHSAA 4-A playoffs. This season is his last in high school and he has set a few goals. “Next season my goal is to win states and my goal over the rest of the summer is to get better since I have so much time on my hands,” Hamilton said. With a key transfer coming to Independence, Jamarius Burton will help Hamilton with some of the load as they look to bring a NCHSAA 4-A state title back to Charlotte.
Also over the summer Justyn was invited to The USA Olympic Men’s 17U training camp at United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was one of 39 high school basketball players across the country to receive this honor. Hamilton participated in the 2015 USA Basketball Junior National team minicamp in October and was selected to the Junior National team last fall.
