Continue ReadingCox Mill High School outside of Charlotte, North Carolina is home to one of the best sophomores in the country. Wendell Moore Jr. is a 6-foot-5 small forward who has offers from Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Charlotte, Tennessee, NC State, Wake Forest and Georgia.
He is the youngest player ever to receive a scholarship offer from North Carolina coach Roy Williams and only the second freshman (the other is Duke freshman Harry Giles).
Under Head Coach Jody Barbee, Moore averaged 17 points per game, 8.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists , 1.8 steals and 1.0 blocked shots this season for Cox Mill HS Chargers team that finished 22-8 last season and advanced to the 4th round of the NCHSAA 3-A state playoffs before falling to eventual state champion Jay M. Robinson High School. Barbee had this to say about his super sophomore, “He makes his teammates better because he plays the game the right way! Expectations for him will continue to be out the roof, he has to prove that he is one of the top players in the country on a nightly basis.”
Earlier this month, Moore was selected to the USA Basketball Junior National Team Mini-Camp in Colorado. He spent the summer playing with Team CP3 on the Nike circuit.
