Continue ReadingWith the season nearly upon us, there have been lots of verbal commitments going on across the state. One of the most recent commitments was Jordan Foster to Lamar University. Last year, Foster was a 6’8 lefty defensive stopper and putback guy for Comeaux, and helped lead them to the 7th seed in 5A, the highest seed for them since a run to the Top 28 in 2013.
This offseason, Foster feels like the place that he has improved the most is as a leader. “Last year, I feel like there were times where on the court I should have been more vocal. I’m not making those same mistakes this year.” That growth in leadership hasn’t been the only growth that he has gone through lately. When asked what height he would be listed at he said “at least 6’9, but probably closer to 6’10 or 6’11,” confirming the rumor floating around that he hasn’t stopped growing just yet.
Despite his large stature, and impressive defensive numbers, Foster’s recruitment did not take off until late this past summer. He started off the summer playing for Louisiana Elite, but switched teams mid-way through the summer, and finished the summer off with the D1 Ambassadors, a grassroots team out of Houston. It was at this point that more and more coaches began attending his games, and his name became more familiar in coaching circles.
Foster says that he chose Lamar, because “fit wise, it was the best decesion as a team and an opportunity for a college education.” He also holds offers from UNO, Xavier, University of Dallas, Southern Miss, Wesleyan Kentucky, UL and a few others. But with these other offers, don’t expect him to be wavering on his commitment anytime soon. “It would have to be a true, better offer. Not just more compliments and nice words. I believe in honoring my commitment.”
During the interview process, Foster came off incredibly intelligent and mature for his age. Lamar is going to be getting a great post presence as well as a fantastic leader. He holds a 3.2 and made a 20 on his ACT.
