Prince is back with his 13 points a game joined by fellow senior Dashawn Pickford (a dozen a game) and freshman Lu-Cye Patterson (11.4 points per contest). Add in the several experience role players and expectations should be high.
Prince is a guy they will lean on. The young man has been through a lot and came out on top.
“Devonta is a young man who has overcome a lot in his life, starting with a vicous dog attack as a young man (http://www.twincities.com/2007/04/13/minneapolis-dog-mauls-boy-8-on-way-to-school/),” said Brooklyn Park Head Coach Matthew McCollister.
“In terms of his game, he brings an energy and joy to the game. Right now his length and athleticism are his best attributes and he can really impact games by defending, getting into passing lanes, and rebounding on both ends.”
Prince played with the D1 Minnesota Prospects a year ago and between that and what he did at BC, Coach McCollister thinks Prince is set for a big year.
“After the season we told Devonta that going into his senior year he had to work on consistency; both on the court as well as from a leadership standpoint,” McCollister explained.
“That is where his biggest improvements have come, last year he would take turns dominating games in different fashions, offensively one game, rebounding another, defensively another. From our workouts I expect him to be more consistent in how he affects the game in multiple ways on a game in and game out fashion.
Prince will play college basketball. His length, agility, and potential are intriguing to schools.
“Right now Devonta is hearing from Nebraska-Omaha as well as a number of junior colleges including DMACC, North Platte,” Coach McCollister said. “Like most junior college prospects, that will pick up as his senior season progresses.”
