Team Previews:
Forest Trail Academy: Feature 2017 6’2 G Elvin Rodriguez who recently received his first D1 offer from The University of Denver, 2017 guard Mustafa Lawrence, 2018 F Ibrahim Dodo, 2018 F Joel Ntambwe who has offers from Wichita State, Tennessee, Denver, Duquesne, Kent State, 2019 PG Caleb Burgess, 6’3 2017 Carlos Nuttry.
Glenn High School: Rachard Daniels 6’2 (2017)-strong athletic guard who can get to the rim and finish while always pulling up for 3. Very strong and great bounce. Being looked at by d2/d3 schools. Could be a sleeper at the d1 LM level. Best days are ahead. 11ppg as a junior on a balanced scoring team. Chrishawn Lindsey, 6’3 (2017) Long athletic player who can get to the rim and finish. Very athletic player. 14 ppg as a junior. Toby Brown– (2017)guard who can get to the rim, big bodied player who uses size to his advantage attacking the basket. 8 ppg as a junior. Marcus Harris– (2018) PG who can distribute the ball to find teammates in scoring positions but also can get to the rack and finish. Nice mid range game. His game will grow and get better with time. Josh Jenkins-(2017) transferred back to Glenn from WS Prep and should help the guard depth as an experienced player. Jordan Ward-(2017)2 sport athlete who also pitches on the mound for the baseball team. Can shoot the 3 ball well and provide senior leadership. Paul Carlton-(2019) sophomore post who finished last part of previous season on varsity. Big body who has a nice post game who will develop nicely in his remaining 3 years of high school. Look for him to become a larger presence throughout the upcoming season.
Vance High School: Cam Hamilton averaged 20.7 points, 4.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.6 steals per game last season while leading Vance High School to a 14-13 record and 5-7 in the MECK-A conference. Hamilton is a smooth point guard that can get from end-to-end in a hurry. He has great change of direction and speed in the open floor. The left handed guard can fill it up in a hurry. He has a offer from Presbyterian college and a few more showing interest.
Southwest Guilford High School- 8 players returning from that squad after losing 4 seniors to graduation, including Piedmont Triad 4A All Conference selections in Kaymon Mitchell and sharpshooter Orlando Smith. However, no one will cry for the Cowboys as they return 3 of the best guards in the state in brothers Kameron, Kobe and Keyshawn Langley. All three guards are drawing D-1 attention. Kameron Langley, ranked #26 in PrepHoopsNC 2017 rankings has offers from the likes of NC A&T, Marshall and the University of Denver. He does a little bit of everything for Southwest and somebody is going to get a gift that they did not expect at the college level. Over the past 2 years “Killa Kam” has let the state in assists, steals and charges taken at the 4A level according to Max Preps. He is a true stat stuffer and an even better person, while sporting a g.p.a. nearing 4.5.Kobe Langley, ranked #6 in PrepHoopsNC 2019 rankings is super athletic and shoots it with the best of them while averaging 13.5 ppg as a freshman, while earning All Conference honors. Kobe can finish from deep or at the rim. His ability to steal the ball is uncanny and his instincts are wise beyond his years. He has had contact from schools such Arizona, NC State, Tennessee and a current offer from Virginia Tech.PrepHoopsNC’s #9 2019 recruit, Keyshawn Langley is super savvy, with an unexpected jumpshot. This pitbull can run your offense and defense, the ability to score. He does not shake under pressure and constantly pushes the ball with uncanny control of the ball. Key was also All Conference and has a love for the game, but possesses an edge that you need to survive at the highest level. He has the same looks as his twin brother Kobe and averaged that same 13.5 ppg as a freshman last year. Both twins shot the ball from 3-point distance above 50% last year and are fierce competitors. “The Twins” don’t mind going to the next level together, but are not necessarily a package according to their father, Keyford, who doubles as the their travel coach for CP3 during the travel season. These two stepped on campus boasting 3 straight AAU National Championships and added a “Vegas” Tournament championship this past summer. That edge is needed as they expect to make a run at a high school state championship this year. New comer Brandon Lamberth, brings much needed size that is truly needed if we are going to make a run. 6’5 Brandon, who comes to Southwest after earning Metro 4A All Conference honors, runs the court like a deer and rebounds like a grown man. He can guard multiple positions and can really shoot the ball, although he does not shoot much from distance.
Dudley High School- One of the NCHSAA powerhouses in football and basketball features 6-foot-3 New Hampshire University commit Josh Hopkins, Virginia Tech football commit Hendon Hooker who averaged nearly 15 points per game this past season, 6-foot floor general Brion Seagraves who pumped out 3.3 assists and 8 points per game and Myles White who averaged nearly 10 points per game this past season for the Panthers.
Winston-Salem Prep– This years roster will have another good mixture of class and talent, seniors Zaire Williams (6’7/F) will be expected to be the presence that we know he’s capable of being, game in and game out. He holds offers from Georgia Southern, Marshall and VMI amongst others. Other seniors that will contribute will be Josh Gould (6’2/G), Levon McCullom (6’4/F),and Justin Carter (6’4/F) each battle tested and bringing great experience along with talent we expect to utilize. The backcourt has been and will continue to be a force to be dealt with with the return of juniors Justice Goodloe(6’1/PG/offers from Georgia Southern, UMES, Gardner Webb) and Daivien Williamson (6’1/G/offers from Georgia Southern, Hampton, UNCG) with another year under their belt on the varsity level we think these two will have solid years and come into their own and their game will ascend to higher levels. With help from sophomore Chaz Gwyn(6’2/G) they plan to utilize all that they do for one common goal. A State championship.
Ben L. Smith High School– Return 6-foot-4 wing Tyrece Cheeks, who averaged 10.2 points and 3.5 rebounds last season for the 15-12 Golden Eagles this past season, another key returner is 6-foot 2018 guard Jacob Crutchfield who averaged 8 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. 6-foot-8 Jaylan Gainey averaged 8 points and 9.6 rebounds per contest last season. He has offers from Western Carolina, Denver, NC A&T, North Carolina Central, Appalachian State, Hampton and University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.
Reynolds High School– Finished 23-5 last season and lost there top three scorers from last season’s team. Should be a little of a rebuilding year for a Demons team that advanced to the 2nd round of the NCHSAA 4-A state playoffs.
