Teams scheduled to compete are Forest Trails Academy (Winston-Salem), Smith High School (Greensboro), Vance High School (Charlotte), Dudley High School (Greensboro), Reynolds High School (Winston-Salem), Glenn High School (Kernersville), North Stanly High School, Winston-Salem Prep, SW Guilford High School (Greensboro), Parkland High School, McMichael High School and Reagan High School.
Team Previews:
Parkland High School– The Mustangs finished 9-15 last season with a 1-10 conference record in the Piedmont Triad 4-A. They won the Frank Spencer Holiday Classic Pepsi Bracket with a 58-56 victory over North Forsyth High School before slidding downhill the rest of the season. Head Coach Carlos Mumford resigned in February and Travis Holcomb-Faye was hired in April to bring Parkland High School back to it’s winning ways. Faye played at RJ Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem before attending East Carolina University where he is the all-times assists leader in Pirate history.
Reagan High School shooting guard Justin McCluneyMcMichael High School– The Phoenix lose high scoring guard Dy’Kyrian Brown to graduation, he averaged 25 points and 5 rebounds per game last season for the Phoenix who finished 10-14 overall. Returning to McMichael is 6-foot-2 Carlos Martinez who averaged 5.9 points and 4 rebounds per game last season. Also returning is 6-foot-3 2017 guard Peyton Clark and 5-foot-10 Jordan Bullins.
North Stanly High School– The Comets advanced to the 3rd round of the NCHSAA 1-A state tournament last season with a record of 22-7 overall. North Stanly finished 8-2 in the Uwharrie Athletic 1-A conference. The loss of 6-foot-5 shooting guard Stephen Misenheimer will be a big factor this season. He is playing at Wingate University this season. One player to look out for this upcoming season is Jason Doerr, a 6-foot-5 forward in the 2018 class. They also return 2019 PG Bryson Childress and 2017 PT Childress who were named to SNAP All-County basketball team this past season.
Reagan High School- The Raiders are led this season by 2017 SG Justin McCluney. The senior is 5-foot-10 and can score the basketball with his mid-range shooting ability and his high basketball IQ. He is a adept pass-making guard and can make the three-point shot. Reagan High School finished last season at 10-14 overall and 5-7 in the Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference.
