With the graduation of the top two players on their squad last season: Damani Applewhite & Adrian Norwood, some would feel that Westover won’t have a chance to be very good this year, well that couldn’t be further from the truth. Any team that is led by Coach Stackhouse and the staff of Coach Travis and Coach Ward is a team to keep an eye on, I stopped in briefly this past week to watch Westover workout and the players were in the gym putting in work to get better, they will be a very young squad but once they all get locked in and on the same page they will be very dangerous and a special team in the future.
- Class of 2018 Forward Jalin Thorne: If Westover is going to have a good season they will need consistent production from the 6’8 big , he had some moments where he showed how good he could be last year and now will be his time to shine. He can block shots at a high rate and is becoming more comfortable with his back to the basket as time goes along.
- Class of 2019 Guard Tyron George: Tyron is a young combo guard that can score the ball very well, this offseason he’s battled injuries but I fully expect him to come in this season and be a consistent double digit scorer. He already holds an offer from SC State and the list will continue to grow
- Class of 2017 Guard Jalen Cook: Every young team needs some senior leadership, Jalen has been around the program a while and understands what Coach Stackhouse will want from his players. He will be a huge part in helping the younger guys bring it on a nightly basis, he also has the ability to knock down shots from the outside at a high rate
- Class of 2019 Guard Thomas Hendricks: Thomas was the most productive player for Westover during the summer league when I had the chance to watch them. He has a natural high basketball IQ for the game and knows to run the show, the more he develops strength wise the more dangerous he will be
- Class of 2020 Guard Isaiah Douglas: The new transfer was very impressive in workouts, throughout the session he barely missed any shots, he has a smooth shooting stroke and brings that serious New York City type of competiveness to the team. Although he is still a young player I truly expect him to come in and make a large impact for this Westover team during the season.
- Class of 2020 Traymond Willis-Shaw: Traymond will be one to keep a close eye on, he’s about 6’6 with a very long wingspan, throughout the workout he showed flashes of how good he can possibly be. He has nice form on his shot and finishes quite a few plays with dunks inside, only time will tell but if he stays focused he has a chance to be very good as well.
