Only time will tell but Village Christian definitely has all the tools that they need to be crowned champions once again, so let’s break down some of the key players that college coaches will want to keep a close eye on.
Returners
Jordan Ratliffe 2017 Guard: Jordan was a newcomer for Village last year but played huge throughout the season, he has a natural ability to score the ball and is an outstanding athlete. During the summer VMI pulled the trigger as the first school to offer but we fully expect more schools to join the bandwagon before the season ends.
Nassyr Daniels 2017 Forward: Every Team needs a big and that’s just what Nas is, he runs the floor, blocks shots, and rebounds. If he can stay strong and productive especially on the defensive end, Village can be successful throughout the season. Also D2 schools should definitely keep a close eye on him, he still has work to do but he is a player that has a high ceiling.
Josh Haymer 2017 Guard: Josh is a player that has been productive but quiet, he has a very high IQ for the game and simply makes the right play at the right time. Defensively he is the team best on ball defender and did an outstanding job last season of guarding the best player on the opposing teams. Not only is he a lockdown defender but he can also get it done offensively, D2 schools should be keeping a close eye on this young man.
New Kids on the Block
Dakari Johnson 2018 Guard: Dakari was probably the biggest pickup for Village this offseason, he is a true PG that can come and do some things that UNCP Signee David Strother did for the team last year. He knocks down shots, get inside the paint at will and locks in defensively to make things hard for opponents , Dakari just has that old school toughness that will help his team be successful in close games.
Omari Wilson 2017 Wing: Omari had a very successful season with Team Wall this past season, he’s a 6’4 wing that can knock down shots, defend well, and has nice athleticism as well. At this point Newberry is the only school to offer but more schools will pull the trigger before soon, we expect Omari to have a big time season for Village.
Jarvez Ellis 2017 Wing : Jarvez does a good job of stretching the floor for Village Christian, he can knock down shots from the outside and has become a better defender as of late, he has a nice long wingspan and plays thr passing lanes very well.
Dre Fuller 2018 Wing: Dre is the wildcard for this team, he was originally at Village Christian before he transferred down to a school in Florida, he has all the tools to be very successful and at 6’5 can be a versatile player. The main focus for Dre will be his inner toughness and playing through physical play, if he can do that he will be a very special prospect.
