Head Coach: Nathan Faulk (5th season) Faulk will begin his 13th year as a varsity coach this season, he is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Wilmington and Virginia Commonwealth University. Nathan Faulk coached Bryant Edwards (at South Columbus High School) who went on to play at Milligan College and Rian Holland (at South View High School) who played at Wichita State
Conference: Mideastern 3-A/4-A Conference
Last Season: 12-5 (5-7 in conference) Lost in 1st round of NCHSAA playoffs.
There is a lot of expectations at Laney High School with the greatest basketball player of all-time, Michael Jordan being an alumni. Jordan averaged 26.8 points per game, 11.6 rebounds and 10.1 assists his senior year at Laney. He would later go on to become a McDonald’s All-American out of Laney High School and then to a Hall-of-Fame career at North Carolina and with the Chicago Bulls.
Key Players:
Sherod Sidburry- 2019 6’2″ slasher/athletic/ varsity player as a freshman great build and size. He can play all positions very versatile, receiving attention and interest from schools early at D2 level.
Chris Bennett- 2017 6’1″ will have a chance to be a 1,000 point scorer is a do it all player, usually averages double double every game, cleans up the boards and finishes around the rim can also step out and hit mid range. He has spent a lot of time developing mid range game. He was our MVP last year with 14ppg 10 rpg, receiving interest from D3 level.
Hunter Cook- 2017 4 year varsity player at PG, takes care of the ball, limited turnovers, and gets offense set up. He is all that a coach wants as it comes to running the show.
Marcus McLaurin-2020 6’3 Freshman OUTSTANDING long wirey can score in variety of ways, block shots. We are very excited about the future of Marcus.
Chase Rhew- 2017 6’3 shooter very good knock down shooter with some size, receiving interest from Division 2 and Division 3 schools.
Head Coach Nathan Faulk had this to say about the upcoming season, “We are very excited about the young talent this season, mixed with veteran leadership. We are coming off a trip to the NCHSAA playoffs which we hope to return and advance this season. This will be my 5th season at the helm of Laney High.” School.
