The Ashbrook High School 2019 class of JaQuan Hemphill, JaQuese Hemphill, Tykel Roseboro and Deaven Lowery are one of the best in school history and is overlooked by too many people who cover prep basketball across the state. Although inexperienced at the varsity level, their progression this year could make Ashbrook High School dangerous.
Twin brothers Ja’Quan Hemphill and Ja’Quese Hemphill, starred last season at the JV level and led their team to a 19-1 record including 8-1 in the Big South 2/A 3/A conference. Both Hemphills’ put up double-digit scoring averages for the season. PrepHoopsNC had the chance to talk to the twins about their upcoming season as members of the Ashbrook High School varsity basketball team.
PrepHoopsNC: Who all have you heard from recently and who has offered up until now?
Ja’Quan Hemphill: Sadly nobody has offered me anything and not even call my phone or my parents
PrepHoopsNC: What are your goals for the summer and next season at your high school?
Ja’Quan Hemphill: Of course I’ll work on my game over the summer & for next season in high school I would be more of a role model and try to lead them to states
PrepHoopsNC: What are you looking at in a school when you make that decision?
Ja’Quan Hemphill: Like I said I have no offers or anything but if I had a decision I would like the coaches to push me and help me become a better player on and off the court
PrepHoopsNC: What are the most important parts of your game and can you explain your game to me?
Ja’Quan Hemphill: Most important parts of my game would be most definitely my shooting and attacking the rim and playmaking abilitys
PrepHoopsNC: What are some things do you feel you need to work on?
Ja’Quan Hemphill: My ball handling , and post moves , and my defense, and being quicker on my feet , learning how to read the defense once all that falls in place I feel like I can be a dominant player.

Ja’Quese Hemphill: I haven’t heard from any colleges yet.
PrepHoopsNC: What are your goals for the summer and next season at your high school?
Ja’Quese Hemphill: My goals for the summer is to get better on my game , No Days Off. Picking up a few interest and offers from big University Schools. Also for next year season is to come out prepared every game giving it all I got. Getting my teammates better on & off the court. Also with me being over looked , I just wanna prove to NC & Coaches what I’m all about.
PrepHoopsNC: What is it like having your borther on the same team in high school?
Ja’Quese Hemphill: Having my brother on the same team as me is a honor, we know we got each other back also knowing that we can count on each other.
PrepHoopsNC: What are you looking at in a school when you make that decision?
Ja’Quese Hemphill: What I look for in a school whenever I make a decision is , the environment around me. Also for my coaches to push me harder on & off the court, But most definitely help me reach my ultimate goal as becoming a NBA player.
PrepHoopsNC: What are the most important parts of your game and can you explain your game to me?
Ja’Quese Hemphill: The most important part of my game is my IQ , Shooting , & My Quickness. My game is more like Stephen Curry style, Love getting my teammates involved into the game , On defense, I love playing the passing lanes , Love the deep ball , But my Quickness on the court really helps my game. I can go to any spot i want. I’ll also love going in to get a couple rebounds.
PrepHoopsNC: What are some things do you feel you need to work on?
Ja’Quese Hemphill: Some things I need to work on is getting stronger. Knowing I’m a 5’10, 145lbs Point Guard. I know it’s going to be some rough times when bigger opponents gone try to push me around.
