PIEDMONT ATHLETIC CONFERENCE OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS (PACIS) – 3A
- Greensboro Day School– Perennial state power Greensboro Day returns a talented group again this season, The Bengals return 7 of their top 8 players, including 4 of 5 starters, from last year’s team that went 28-5. 6 of the 7 returning players were all on the 2015 NCISAA 3A State Championship team that made an appearance at the 2015 Dick’s Sporting Goods National High School Tournament. Needless to say, they return a lot of experience. Point-Forward, 6-7 JP Moorman recently committed to Temple University. His versatility and play making ability will allow him to lead this deep Bengals squad this year. He will create many mismatches depending on where is playing on the court.
JP Moorman
JP helped Team CP3 win The Eight in Las Vegas this summer. JP is rated as the #3 by PrepHoops. 6-3 G Will Dillard ’18 has been on everyone’s radar since CP3 camp as a 7th grader when his wind-mill dunk was SportsCenter’s Top Play. You will not find a better defender in the state, maybe in the nation.
- Wesleyan Christian Academy– Another one of North Carolina’s premier NICSAA programs, Wesleyan Christian Academy gained transfer Jaylen Hoard, from France. Hoard was the MVP of the Jordan Brand International Game, he recently was selected to the Under Armour Elite 24 in Brooklyn, NY and at the FIBA U17 World Championships, Hoard was the second-leading scorer averaging 22.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Another newcomer is Shawn Walker Jr. The rising sophomore averaged 10 points per game and helped lead Northeastern High School to a 27-3 record including a 12-0 mark in the Northeastern Coastal 2-A Conference. The newcomers and the return of Houston Baptist commit David Caraher, big man Ian Steere and Aaron Wiggins should make for a tight race at the top for winning the conference.
Jaylan Hoard
- High Point Christian Academy– The NCISAA 3-A state runner-up last season will again be a force to reckon with in the private school race. Under new head coach Joe Cooper, Cooper takes over the head coaching duties as long-time coach Brandon Clifford resigned. Cooper was previously at Crossroads Christian and led them to 23-9 finish and a berth in the NCISAA Class 2-A quarterfinals. Key returners includes 6’5” 2017 Jalen Seegars, 6’3” 2017 Reece Bogan, 6’3” 2018 Lance Boykin, 6’4” 2017 De’shaun Taylor, and 5’9” 2017 Tyeren Melton. Of the title run returnees, Seegars is a powerful wing who can create for himself, but also has the ability to knock down open shots. He currently holds offers from Western Carolina, Vermont, Monmouth, Winthrop, Hampton, and High Point. Another key player, Reece Bogan is a deep threat who’s great in catch and shoot situations but can also create his own shot off the dribble. Bogan has recently committed to play for Walsh University of Ohio. Key transfers for the Cougars this season include John Kerr, a 6’11” Sr. big man from East Forsyth High School, who has attracted a lot of college interest for his soft touch around the basket and ability to alter shots on the defensive end. Other transfers are 6’6, 2018 Andrew Gordon from Carlisle School in Virginia, 6’4” 2018 Kyle Watkins, a versatile scorer who fills up the stat page with his many contributions, and 6’1” 2017 Cole Watkins, both from Ragsdale High School.
- Forsyth Country Day– FCD finished last season at 22-10 overall under head coach Harold West. This year the Furies return 6-foot-8 rising sophomore Nick Evtimov whose dad, Vassil Evtimov played at North Carolina in the 1990’s. Also returning is 6-foot-1 junior Tripp Greene, 2018 guard Chase Walter, 6-foot-3 senior Brandon Mayhan,
