The long and versatile state champion recently mentioned to PHIA that his recruitment has been active of late, and though he did not want to specify which schools are after him, he did mention there is a wide-range of levels.
“I’d rather not get too specific as to what schools, but there’s just a wide range of interest; NAIA, D2, D3, and a little bit of D1,” said Techau.
“My top priority is having the best high school season I can, and helping my team out however I can. But my recruitment is definitely up there, and hopefully it all comes together for me so I can find somewhere where I like to play and get a great opportunity — so that’s what I’m hoping for.”
He says he’s not too concerned with the level of college ball he plays, so long as it’s the right fit.
“I just really want to play, so whatever I think is the best fit, I’ll just do that,” said Techau.
Known as a shot-blocking post with a tenacious playing style. Techau is also able to be versatile, and broke down his playing style in his own words.
“I’m a lot stronger than I was, so I think I’m a lot better inside,” he said. “But I think my jump shot has gotten a lot better as well. Another thing I can do now is get a rebound and take it up the floor and finish,” said Techau.
Now, the talented post can shift his focus to his senior season, where he’ll be a focal point on a Saints team that will be favorites to repeat as 3A champions.
“I’m already looking forward to it, and I hope it’s a really fun year again. We expect to play to our abilities, and we’re hoping we can do all we can do, just like we did last year,” said Techau.
“I want to be a more of a leader than I was last year, now I’m a senior and one of the older guys now. So, I’ll need to lead everyone and make sure we’re doing what we’re supposed to do.”
