“Heart over height” is what class of 2017, Kajuan Ford of Belmont High School keeps in mind as he breaks down defenders and uses his quickness to get easy buckets. At just 5’6, the senior guard can shoot from the perimeter and slash to the basket. He cannot only score but he also sets his teammates up to score He also gets after it on the defensive end. I asked Ford how he handles taller defenders. He said:
“People usually underestimate me because of my size until they see that I am not backing down. Taller players have a problem containing me on the drive because I use my quickness to explode to the rim. I also try to get off my feet to make the defender challenge me and it usually turns into a basket or a foul which is good as well.”
Ford has not received any offers but he is getting interest from Division I schools. Ford has Notre Dame, UNLV, UC, EMU, and Ohio. He plans for his stock to rise as he finishes up basketball camps and gets ready for the season. Ford played AAU for Future Prospects. Throughout the summer, Ford has been improving his shooting.
Ford hopes to make an impact on the type of season Belmont High School will have. He wants a shot at the city title and to make a run in the post season. With his work ethic, that should not be a problem. His quick and flashy style of play will hopefully get his team going as well as getting the crowd on their feet in big games.
