The 2017 prospect was the lone junior starter on a very good Cyclone team last season, and could emerge as one of 3A’s premier point guards this winter.
Rasmussen mentioned to PHIA that his recruitment has been somewhat active of late, and he has three schools in particular that are hot on his trail.
“Briar Cliff has been talking to me quite a bit, and I went on a visit to their school last year. Buena Vista as well, I’ve been talking to them quite a bit. And those are the two main schools. And I guess Doane has been talking to me quite a bit too. And Central in Pella too,” said Rasmussen.
Still though, the talented senior has not picked up an offer, but says he feels something may come soon.
“That’d be very nice if I could get some scholarship offers and some money for college — I’ve always wanted to play college basketball,” said Rasmussen.
“I haven’t gotten an offer yet, but we’ve talked about that stuff, so it might be close.”
A true point guard, Rasmussen says his objective every time down the floor is to get his teammates involved, and to find and exploit mismatches.
“I like to get others involved, and the main goal obviously is to win, so it’s just whatever I can do to help the team. Whether I have a mismatch, or a teammate has a mismatch, I try to take advantage of that,” said Rasmussen.
“My ball-handling is probably one of my stronger points, and my 3-point shooting is probably what I could work on most before I’m ready to play college ball.”
After averaging 8.2 points and 4.3 assists per game last season, Rasmussen will likely see those numbers balloon this season.
“I was the only underclassmen playing up on varsity last year, so this year we’re going to be inexperienced. I’ll be expected to carry more of the load offensively because we don’t have Kyle Juhl anymore, and he helped us out a lot last year,” said Rasmussen.
“Last year we were kind of expected to make it to state and we came up short, that was kind of a bummer. So that’s really my only personal goal this year, is to get to state.”
