2019 point guard Kojack Thompson is originally from Greenville, South Carolina and played at Christ Church High School before transferring to Christ School in Arden, North Carolina. The rising sophomore is a blur in the open court, has a very good handle with the basketball in his hands and has a great feel for the game. PrepHoopsNC caught up with Thompson this week and here is what he had to tell us.
PrepHoopsNC: How is Christ School? Who all have you heard from recently and who has offered up until now?
Kojack: The experience has exceeded my expectations. The community has welcomed me with open arms. They educate you on how to become outstanding young men. As of right now, no colleges have reached out to me after the move but I’m not too concerned because they’ll soon be taking interest into me, seriously.
PrepHoopsNC: What are your goals for this season at your high school?
Kojack: From a team standpoint, I’m looking forward to leading and contributing to my team to the state championship and show that Christ School is making some noise this year. Personally, I want to show that I can compete on the highest level and enhance my skills.
PrepHoopsNC: You grew up in the Greenville, SC area. There have been a lot of really good basketball players come through that area in the last few years. What relationship do you have with any of them.
Kojack: One person that I look up to from my area is Jawun Evans (Oklahoma State sophomore). He’s a great point guard and actually, we worked out a couple times two summers ago. He was giving some much needed tutelage on how to attack so I’m very appreciative of that relationship. I also grew up playing against my friend Zion Williamson (one of the top 2018 prospects in the country at Spartanburg Day) who pushed me from a competitive standpoint.
PrepHoopsNC: What are you looking at in a school when you make that decision?
Kojack: My first task would be to search for a school that fits my educational needs and propel my growth as a young man. Athletically I would like to play for a program that plays an up-tempo style and has a family atmosphere.
PrepHoopsNC: What are the most important parts of your game and can you explain your game to me?
Kojack: The most important parts of my game is my play making ability and my leadership skills. I pride myself on being the most well rounded player on the floor. I use my speed and quickness to make plays for myself and my teammates. I’m always in attack mode.
PrepHoopsNC: What are some things do you feel you need to work on?
Kojack: I am making everyday to improve my game. My goal is to be more consistent at all aspects. I want to tighten up my ball-handling, increase my range, and get stronger finishing at the hoop.
