This was an easy choice. And that’s no knock to the rest of the first team members, but more a compliment to just how good Juhl is. He was sensational last season as junior, putting together one of the best shooting seasons of the last several years in Iowa. He also spent his offseason playing with one of Iowa’s best grassroots teams, Kingdom Hoops Elite 17U, and was a key contributor on the squad.
First Team (2015-16 stats in parenthesis)
2017 Ben Juhl, 6′ G, Des Moines Christian (18.9 PPG, 60.3 FG%, 45 3FG%, 80 FT%, 1.7 SPG)
Not only is he the best player in this conference, but Juhl is one of the best players in the state. He’ll be in the running for 2A player of the year by season’s end.
2018 Ammari Johnson, 6’4 F, Woodward Academy (15.7 PPG, 6.1 RPG)
The second leading returning scorer in the conference, and he’s proven to be a good rebounder too. There could be several double-doubles ahead for this junior star.
2017 Levi Leiferman, 6’1 SG, Panorama (14.5 PPG, 51 FG%, 3.1 APG, 2.0 SPG)
Leiferman was a steady hand last season as a junior, now he’s a senior and ready to take the reins of a team that will have a new-look starting five this winter.
2019 Trent Williamson, 6’2 G, Earlham (7.0 PPG, 45 FG%, 1.4 SPG, 3.0 RPG)
He was just a freshman last season, and spent the winter learning the ropes. He had an active summer playing in grassroots tournaments and camps. Expect his numbers to balloon.
2018 Blake Fryar, 6′ G, Van Meter (8.7 PPG, 42 3FG%, 90 FT%)
Great shooting and smart play make this Bulldog a first team candidate. He was very good this offseason playing with Kingdom Hoops X, and anyone that hits 90 percent from the line has some serious skill.
Second Team
2017 Delonquay Richardson, 6’5 PF, Woodward Academy
2017 Nathan Kennedy, 6’2 G, Ogden
2017 Demarcus Riley, 5’9 PG, Woodward Academy
2018 Isaac Prewitt, 6’2 G, Des Moines Christian
2017 Bodi Harrison, PG, Woodward-Granger
Honorable Mention: Nathan Herbers (Des Moines Christian), Joey Jarkins (Earlham), Cadeyn Wardyn (Guthrie Center), Michael Santi (Madrid), Noah Snedden (Ogden), Bryce Halterman (Panorama), Logan Pruitt (West Central Valley), Knick Badker (West Central Valley), Austin Mona (Des Moines Christian)
