You may not have heard of New Life Christian at this point, but based on the way the team performed last season, you definitely should know them by now. Last year’s squad put together an impressive season going 26-9 overall and making it into the elimination rounds of their national tournament. Although the team will lose some of their starters due to graduation, they will return the team starting PG Rashad Royster and some other pieces that could help them come up with a very good season. This past season with many weapons on the squad he took a back seat to the team and focused on facilitating more but during his sophomore season he took on a scoring role for his team averaging 24 points per game. Just recently he attended the UNCP elite camp and performed well against some other college prospects, coaches should keep an eye on him throughout the year.
What makes him special?
Rashad is a dual threat point guard, he can score the ball very well from inside and out, locks down on defense , and plays the game with a chip on his shoulder. When the team needs a bucket he can be trusted with the ball in his hands no matter what the situation is , there has been numerous times throughout the season that’s he come up with game winning points or assist. Defensively he is more than capable of picking up his man full court to apply the proper pressure and come up with steals with gambling and getting beat. The attribute that I like the most about Rashad is he has what many call ‘‘short man syndrome’’, he doesn’t allow anyone to take advantage of him regardless of size. He’s also going to play with a high motor and with all his heart every single game, the young man hates to lose and loves to win.
