Louisiana Top 250 Expo: Top Guards in Skill Sessions
The first Top 250 Expo of the summer for Prep Hoops came to a close yesterday evening and it was a great one. As you’ve already seen in videos being posted, there was plenty of big time plays being made and even more talent in the gym.
This will be the first part of a series detailing the top performing guards, wings, and forwards when it came to drills and a bit about their skill set. It didn’t take long for competitive juices to flow and the energy level in those drills were incredible.
2017
Blake Turner (5’10 PG, North Vermillion) – He brought energy in the drills and knocked down shots from the start. He showed his comfort on the ball and his ability to make passes in drills as well. Not afraid to attack off the bounce.
Raylon Hardy (6’0 PG, Hahnville) – He’s left hand dominant but overplaying is a mistake and he proved just that in both drills and games. He was one of the better passers in both as well. Showed the ability to knock down shots and score when he was called upon to do so.
2018
Jonathan Cisse (6’1 PG, St. Thomas More) – Cisse does everything you’d ask a guard to do. He can score in a variety of ways, lock down on defense, and make those around him better in pressure situations. All those rang true as his motor was going Sunday.
Jalen Henry (6’2 G, De La Salle) – Henry showed up a little late thanks to traffic still bad from the flood but hoped right onto the court and into a shooting drill where he excels. Plenty of ball handling ability to get himself open and defensive footwork was solid.
Isaiah Lewis (6’4 G, Helen Cox) – The only drills he didn’t dominate were shooting drills and he was vastly improved as well. Showed his versatility with footwork in post drills and defensive drills, dominant performances in one on one, and ability to handle the ball as well.
Eli Mouton (5’8 PG, Ascension Episcopal) – Quite possibly the best ball handler and passer at the event. Small guard doesn’t often scare an opponent when he walks on the court but it only takes a move or two before they realize. Extremely tight handles and great vision as a passer.
Tyler Panyanouvong (6’0 G, Southern Lab) – The thick, well put together guard often looks like a football player on the court but is a dead eye shooter. Showed off his shooting in drill work and it carried over to the game. Does a good job of shielding defenders as a bullying ball handler.
2019
Jason Chan (6’0 PG, Holy Cross) – Take a look at the highlights and you’ll see just what type of moves he showed off in drill work. His handles were tight all day and showed the ability to get to the rim against any defender or knock down open jumpers.
Brandon Nguyen (5’8 G, Catholic) – Nguyen was extremely nifty with the ball and had one of the better moments as he went behind his back on a lay-up to avoid the defender (see highlights). Hit shots with consistency and proved he could compete with high level talent.
Jordan Wright (6’5 G, Dunham) – Wright is the top player in his class and may be the hardest worker as well. He routinely brought the energy level up with his play. There was not a drill he didn’t perform well in and again, with great energy. Future is bright.
