Iowa Top 250 Expo: Top 2019/2020 Wings
There was an overload of talent that took the floor at the All Iowa Attack Fieldhouse on Saturday morning. And though many wings stood out, and several of the underclassmen in attendance will star on their respective teams this winter, it’s the guys highlighted below who were a cut above the rest at the Top 250 Expo.
2019 Dylan Jones (6’7 Waukee)
This kid was absolutely sensational all morning on Saturday, and he can do a little bit of everything. We first saw him standout during the 3-point shooting drill of the skill sessions – a long 6’7 wing who is consistently hitting a 3-ball is striking. During live game action he was the only player in the underclassmen event dunking routinely, and he was hitting from deep and playing protecting the rim too. At the risk of sounding cheesy: a star was born on Saturday.
2019 Collin Lister (6’2 Carlisle)
His vocal leadership and consistent encouragement of his teammates was nice to see. That fiery leadership mentality translated to his game too, and his high-motor matched with his existing ability made him one of the more productive forwards during live game action.
2019 Jordan Jackson (6’4 Fort Dodge)
Good size paired with great athletic ability is what will make this Fort Dodge forward more than serviceable with the Dodgers over the next three seasons. He was slamming home some dunks during the skill sessions (one-dribble post drill), and he crashes the boards with regularity. He’ll be a blocks and rebounds guy for the Dodgers next season.
2019 Sam Glenn (6’3 Grand View Christian)
The younger brother of Grand View Christian senior Stephen Glenn, Sam is taller and leaner and could be considered a guard/forward hybrid. He’s rangy enough that he was able to glide to the hoop and get buckets with one dribble from the perimeter, and he has a nice basketball IQ and innate ability. He’ll be an impact player as a sophomore with one of the best teams in 1A this winter.
2019 Japannah Kellogg (6’5 Ames)
He’s a post player who is currently making a transition to a wing, and it appears he’ll be successful at the task. His handles are coming along nicely and his perimeter defense — thanks in large part to great length — is outstanding. He glides to the hoop with the ball, and though he did not showcase his jumper a ton, he’s more than capable of getting to the rim and scoring from close.
2020 Keshawn Christian (6’1 Iowa City High)
This freshman could be very good for the Little Hawks over the next four seasons thanks to great quickness, length and athleticism. Those physical attributes alone made him a standout, and though he was timid at times during live game play, when he did assert himself he made it evident that there is some skill to his game too. There’s a ton of potential here, and we’ll look forward to monitoring his progress.
2020 Isaiah Johnson (6’3 Waterloo West)
A big and fast wing who can handle the rock a bit. The freshman grabbed a board and breezed coast-to-coast for an athletic lay-in at the other end. He could end up being a very nice player over the next four years for the Trojans.
2020 Jack Wetzel (6’3 Cedar Rapids Kennedy)
Another tall and long freshman wing, Wertzel was getting to the rack routinely where he showed some nice finishing ability. He may not be quite ready to make an impact with a 4A varsity squad as a freshman, but he’ll certainly be a player to watch as he heads into his latter years with the Cougars.
