This young man from the small town of Red Springs, NC broke on to the scene with college coaches and media members a few years back. At 6’5 with a strong frame, and nice athleticism it didn’t take much to see that with the right amount of time and work Tavion Atkinson could reach his full potential and more. During the summer time he would play with Team United on the Nike circuit and gain the interest of school such as the University of Memphis following his sophomore season. However injuries began to affect him in the recent past, and as we know injuries can truly slow down the development of a young athlete to be able to reach their full potential.
Time for a Change
His recruitment had slowed down a bit, and playing against the same teams and competition had become somewhat dried up and mundane Tavion and his family decided that it was time for a move. Now that he has transferred to Liberty Heights, he gets to begin a new chapter in his life and a new opportunity to elevate his game to new heights. So what will Liberty Heights be getting in this young man? Well first of all they will be getting a young man who has a very high ceiling of how good he can be, now at 6’7 and a filled out frame, he can play the stretch forward position that has become very popular these days. Tavion has the ability to bang inside against opponents while also stepping outside and knocking down the trey ball with good consistency. On the defensive end of the floor he can guard wings and bigs, with more work on his speed and lateral quickness he may possibly even be able to become versatile enough to defend guards at the next level. Mid-Major schools should put his name of the radar once again and stop into Charlotte this season to see him in action, at this point DePaul University has already shown interest and we fully expect more to come.
