It didn’t take long to see that he had the potential and many of the tools to be a very good player and prospect. At 6’4 with a long wingspan, and good lateral quickness he made plays on the defensive end against bigs and guards, displaying his versatility and helping to lead 71st to a win. Throughout the remainder of the season he had some solid showings but where he really began to turn heads as he grown a bit more and added some more to his game. Omari had added a knock down shot, more athleticism, and quickness, he was now knocking down the three point ball with consistency even when contested. He showed his athleticism over the summer with quite a few poster and put back dunks over taller defenders, one play I remember in particular was a dunk in the paint over a 6’8 defender. Due to his stellar play and consistent play he would eventually earn a Basketball Elite East Region Fab 40 Camp invite, and would perform well against some of the top prospects in the state. During this past summer he attended some team camps with Village Christian and would receive his first scholarship offer from Newberry University, he is also getting interest from Division 1 level programs.
What will he bring to Village Christian?
So what will Omari bring to Village Christian that will help them repeat as 2A champs this year? Well first of all he is a versatile player that can play the SG, SF and PF spot for his team. He can score the ball at a good rate without interrupting the flow of the game, Omari has a very good basketball IQ so his teammates will learn quickly that he’s an enjoyable player to have on the squad. Last but not least is his personality, he’s not a player that will put himself before the team ad he doesn’t do much talking, He lets his game speak and he is without a doubt only concerned with winning.
