Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh has brought in transfer Tahj Small, a 6-foot-4 wing who played last season at Carlisle School in Virginia. He helped lead Carlisle School to the semi-finals of the Virginia Independent School playoffs.
At Word of God Christian Academy, Small will join a loaded team led by Washington commit Blake Harris, big man Brandon Huffman (was recently offered by UNC), Todd Smith, Zach Newkirk and 2020 point guard Evan Johnson. Word of God is coached by Brian Clifton and alumni include Washington Wizard All-Star point guard John Wall, Indiana point guard Josh Newkirk, and former NC State forward CJ Leslie. Small had this to say about the transition to Word of God, “the transition is going pretty well the coaching staff is great and I get along with my teammates well.”
Small is a scoring wing, he can score off the dribble or hit the spot-up jumper out to the three-point line. He is really good at getting defensive rebounds and can guard multiple positions on the floor. His size allows him to get his shot off over other guards at his position and he has a high basketball IQ. He has offers from Hampton, Southeast Missouri State, Maryland-Eastern Shore, and Maryland-Baltimore County. He has heard recently from The University of Iowa and Temple University.
For his upcoming senior season at Word of God, Small said “My goals this upcoming season are to win every game, average at least 12 to 15 points and win a national title.”
He will start to schedule official visits later this month, “I’m looking to see if I fit the coaching style and if it’s a good fit for me and possibly playing a lot my freshman year”, he stated.
With the addition of Small to the Word of God lineup, it will only help the Holy Rams in their quest for another NCISAA 1-A state championship.
