Fayetteville Academy surprised quite a few teams this past season, following a 3 win season the Eagles brought in first year Coach James Strong, along with a few transfers and the team came within one game of making the state playoffs. Their starting five is a very strong group but the question mark now is who will provided the much needed spark for them with the second unit of the team, listed below are the players that media members and college coaches should watch closely.
Returners
- 2017 Guard Jon Gauer: Will be the leading scorer that is returning this season for the Eagles, last year he averaged over 20 PPG for the squad and will be looked to for senior leadership this season
- 2017 Guard Demetrius Jones: is also a returning starter for the squad, he has his fair share of good showing in the past but the team will need him to be a double figure scorer on a nightly basis.
- 2019 Point Guard John Wright: is a player that brought a high amount of energy for the team, he is very skilled young player that can score the ball with ease but also makes sure to bring the same effort defensively
Newcomers
- 2019 6’5 Forward William Obeyni: Expect William to be a double/double type player as soon as he steps on the floor for Fayetteville Academy. He already has a next level frame and possess nice athletic ability that he uses to finish plays above the rim, the key for William is to remain confident. With this being his first year of varsity, he can expect to have some ups and downs but he must remain confident in his ability to produce for his squad.
- 2019 6’8 Center Emmanuel Izunbor: Emmanuel is the X factor on this team, the way he plays can truly determine if the Eagles will be legitimate contenders in the state. Although he is still raw there have been many occasions where we have watched him blow up for a 20 point, 20 rebound, and 10 block performance over the summer. Only time will tell if he can provide those big time type of numbers during the season, but if he can, the Eagles will be a scary team
