The event over Thanksgiving break is being held at Rocky River High School just outside of Charlotte on November 25-26, 2016. Every year the Charlotte Hoops Challenge brings in some of the best teams in the country and their national recruits.
Tournament director Cristie Mitchell had this to say,”CHC7 is the largest NFHS sanctioned thanksgiving event in the country. We have 26 talented teams from four states. The CHC7 features over a dozen NC ranked kids and several nationally ranked kids. Known for attracting future pros, all eyes will be on #17 ESPN, USA gold medalist Austin Wiley.
In 2013, CHC4 had the #1 game in the country with the matchup of PDS vs Hough. This years featured game of PDS vs JMRobinson should bring similar excitement with Dotson-Batts.”

2:30 New Hampstead vs. York Prep
4:00 Ardrey Kell vs. Burlington School
5:30 Independence vs. Conrad Academy
7:00(G) Providence Day vs. South Mecklenburg
8:30 Rocky River vs. Providence Day
The 5:30 game will feature Independence High School against Conrad Academy and former United Faith (Charlotte) head coach Shaun Wiseman. Wiseman helped lead United Faith to two NCISAA state championships, before leaving the state.
Conrad Academy is led by Austin Wiley, the number 17th ranked player in the country according to ESPN.
Independence HS is led by big man Justyn Hamilton, who has offers from Temple, DePaul, High Point and VCU among others. Hamilton is ranked as the 8th best senior by PrepHoopsNC.
Independece also features Jamarius Burton, a 6-foot-4 wing who is getting mid-major looks and offers. He is ranked 19th in PrepHoopsNC 2018 rankings.
The big game for Friday will be between Rocky River High School and defending NCISAA 3-A state champion Providence Day. Rocky River features PrepHoopsNC #7 ranked 2019 prospect Raquan Brown. The 6-foot-3 Brown is a scoring machines on a team that also features one of the top freshmen in the country, Jaden Springer. Springer is ranked as the #3 prospect in 2020 by PrepHoopsNC.
Providence Day School features 2018 point guard Devon Dotson who has offers from North Carolina, Kansas, Florida State, Memphis, Florida, Clemson, Georgia and NC State among others. He spent the summer playing with Team Charlotte on the Under Armour circuit and participated in the Elite 24. He is ranked as the #3 prospect by PrepHoopsNC in 2018. Providence Day also features 2018 shooting guard Trey Wertz, who has an Atlantic Coast Conference offer from Clemson along with Rice, LaSalle, Charlotte and Richmond. Wertz spent this summer with Team Loaded NC on the Adidas circuit. Wertz is ranked in the top 10 for 2018 by PrepHoopsNC.

The 2:30 match-up on Saturday will feature defending NCHSAA 4-A state champion Charlotte Catholic taking on Burlington School who won the NCISAA 1-A state title in 2015 and were semi-finalists last season.
The Providence Day School against JM Robinson High School will be the main match-up pitting the defending NCISAA 3-A state champs against the NCHSAA 3-A state champs (JM Robinson). Robinson is led by PrepHoopsNC top 2017 recruit Lavar Batts Jr., a strong point guard who has narrowed his college choices to VCU and Clemson.
The Charlotte Hoops Challenge is the premier event in North Carolina during the Thanksgiving break.
