The 5-foot-10 guard is the younger brother of North Dakota sophomore Cortez Seales, and also fellow Lancer and 2018 guard Corvon Seales.
Cortaviaus mentioned to PHIA how his brothers, especially Cortez, have shaped him as a player.
“I’ve improved my game a lot playing those two in 21 games,” said Cortaviaus. “Especially this summer when Cortez came back for college — he would take me to his workouts and help me improve my game, especially off-the-dribble.”
A long and rangy guard, Cortaviaus mentioned his strengths as a player, and what it is he’d like to improve most.
“I like to get to the basket and then the mid-range pull-up. And I like to get my teammates open off the drive. I’m working to improve my 3-point shot and better defense,” said Cartaviaus, who recently wrapped-up his grassroots season with the Iowa Mavericks’ 15U Purple squad.
“We had a good season, my job was to just help our team get wins. And I thought I played better this summer than ever before. I did a better job of scoring the ball, and I was good at getting to the basket off-the-dribble and kicking it out to open teammates.”
Last season Cortaviaus was playing with the Lancers’ JV squad. This season he’s still unsure what his role in the program will be.
“They haven’t told me yet where I’ll be playing this season,” he said. “Last year they just wanted me to be a floor general and get everyone involved with the JV. And this year I would want to do the same thing for the varsity team.”
