Continue ReadingOne of the best teams in the state last year, Lincoln Charter in Lincolton, North Carolina return four starters off a team that advanced to the NCHSAA 1-A Final Four this past season which ended in a loss to 1-A powerhouse Winston-Salem Prep on a buzzer-beater. Point Guard Kody Shubert is one of the best prospects in the state but Jehlon Johnson and Jackson Gabriel are other major contributors on the team. PrepHoopsNC caught up with the two this week.
PrepHoopsNC: How was your summer travel season?
Jehlon Johnson: It was good, we went to Orlando, Indiana, New York, and a few more places. I had a really good experience playing in the summer and it was fun.
PrepHoopsNC: What are the goals for this upcoming season as Lincoln Charter returns 4 starters including you.
Jehlon Johnson: To get the state championship, we fell short of the state championship 2 years in a row and this is our year.
PrepHoopsNC: What schools have been showing interest lately?
Jehlon Johnson: App State, Lipscomb, Gardner Webb, Belmont College, and my coach said there is more be he didn’t mention it to me.
PrepHoopsNC: Can you destine your game to me?
Jehlon Johnson: My game, it’s aggressive, I play with a chip on my shoulder, it’s fluent and smooth, I am able to stretch the floor and come out of the paint.
PrepHoopsNC: How was your summer travel season and what is it like playing with Kody Shubert and what are the goals for this upcoming season as Lincoln Charter returns 4 starters?
Jackson Gabriel: The summer travel season was good, we played great teams and got some new players coming to the team this year. Playing with Kody is great, he is an elite player and he makes it easier for us on the court. Some of our goals are to play and win as a team as we work towards a state championship.
PrepHoopsNC: What schools have been showing interest lately?
Jackson Gabriel: The teams that have been showing interest are Mount St Mary’s, South Florida, APP St, Lipscomb, and Kennesaw St.
PrepHoopsNC: Can you describe your game to me?
Jackson Gabriel: My game is all about shooting the 3 and I have deep range which pulls out the defense to allow my teammates to get to the hole easier. And I am a very unselfish player as I trust my teammates a lot.
