If there was a particular game that we would say that Greg Gantt broke out to the media and college coaches, it would have to be in the 1A NCISAA State Championship game this past season. With Trinity matched up against Cape Fear Christian in a competitive game throughout, he came up with some big plays such as offensive rebounds and knocking down shots from midrange. To be honest it was the type of game that we had been waiting to see from Greg for a few weeks and for him to perform that way in the Championship game was something special. Now going into his sophomore year with two college scholarship offers in his pocket we are looking forward to seeing him have a breakout year.
What makes him special?
Greg is another NC youngster that has outstanding versatility, at 6’7 he is comfortable playing the stretch forward spot but can also move over and play the wing position as well. He has no issue banging inside with big men but can step outside and compete with wings and guards as well, which is something that you have to love from a player that is his age. Offensively he can shot the ball well from mid and deep but is a very gifted passer, which is why we see him as more of a point forward at this point. With the combination of his passing and ball handling skills he is a playmaking forward, however his speed will need to increase for him to become more of a true guard or wing.
Recruitment
Although he has two offers at this point, he has received interest from a very high amount of college programs such as: Texas, NC State, Wake Forest, Tennessee, etc. Don’t be surprised to see some of the interest turning into offers as we fully expect to see the gym at John D Fuller filled with college coaches on a regular basis this year.
