Cox Mill High School will have 4 seniors, 4 juniors and 3 sophomores off a team that reached the 4th round of the NCHSAA playoffs last season and finished 22-8 overall. They will be young with some experience mixed in.
Returning leading scorer and rebounder Wendell Moore will be asked to do a lot for this team. He makes his teammates better because he plays the game the right way! Expectations for him will continue to be out the roof, he has to prove that he is one of the top players in the country on a nightly basis. Carrawell can be the X factor for this young team, he has big play ability and can be a lock down defender.
Francis Sio has been a program player for 4 years that shows up and out work the man beside him. Francis will be asked to play many roles throughout the season.
Newcomer Tyzhaun Claude a transfer from Goldsboro will help solidify the post area for the Chargers. Colin Noone had a really good summer shooting the basketball and being a leader. Joel Hall may have been the biggest surprise up from JV, he exemplifies a true teammate in all areas. Undersized playing the 5 position over the summer, he out worked other bigs for rebounds and loose balls. Cody Cline and Jalen Bynum will compete for minutes at PG.
Jessie Malit a division one football prospect will be a four year lettermen in basketball this season and provide a toughness and edge to the team. Jacari Johnson recovering from injury provides us with some athleticism . Cooper Givens up from JV will look to get minutes and provide depth in the post.
Head Coach Jody Barbee said “To be honest not sure how good this bunch can be, we had a really good summer with jamborees and team camps. It will depend on how healthy we can stay. I will say that this group loves being around each other and sharing the basketball. Hopefully we can get better defensively and play beyond our capabilities.
Open with Weddington on November 18, host Charlotte Christian & Gaston Day in the Phenom Hoops Feast of Champions over Thanksgiving and play in HSOT in Raleigh over Christmas.”
