The point guard controls the game and makes sure his teammates are involved throughout the game. The 5’9 point guard, Brandon McCoy (2017), from Meadowdale High School does just that. McCoy controls the game by switching tempos and setting his teammates up to score. I asked Brandon what he thought was the strongest part of his game and he said:
“The strongest part of my game is my ability to manage the game and break down defenses to get my teammates the ball in good position to score.”
McCoy spent his summer doing workouts to strengthen his ball handling and to put on a few pounds in the weight room as well as working on his shot. He went to a few camps hosted by the University of Findlay and Goshen College. The camps gave him a chance to showcase his game in front of many coaches from all divisions. McCoy has no offers but he has interests from a few NAIA schools and Division III schools. I asked him to name a few. He said:
“I have interest from Heidleburg College, Manchester College, Notre Dame College, Baldwin Wallace College, Dennison College, Glenville State College, West Virginia Westlyne College, University of Virginia Wise, Concord University WV, and Ohio Weslyan.
McCoy’s goal is to build up his list of interest and hopefully receive an offer. McCoy also stated, “My goals for the season are to first be a good leader because we have a younger team made of mostly sophomores and juniors. Another goal is to be more consistent with my scoring since I tend to be a pass first guard. I need to balance my game out and be a threat on offense. My team needs me to score as well.” With Meadowdale being young, this gives Brandon room to improve his game and meet all of his goals as they compete to have a good season and win games. Be on the lookout as the small guard takes on his senior year.
